“Wetcleaning” or “H20” cleaning uses water as the cleaning fluid, along with specialised training, equipment and chemistry. We use wetcleaning as an adjunct to drycleaning when in our professional judgement, its appropriate to bring about the best possible result and it can bring about brilliant results!.
However It cannot replace drycleaning, there is a very good reason why manufacturers put ‘dryclean only’ on the the care labels of their high fashion garments, especially wools and silks. They know full well that water can damage the garment, with shrinkage, colour bleeding, excessive wrinkling etc, shortening its lifespan.
Wetcleaning does not have any filtration, whereas in our drycleaning machines the drycleaning solution lifts soils into suspension and passes several hundred litres through 20 plus filters a minute. leaving behind dirt, stains and grit on the filters. Because in wetcleaning there isn’t any filters and the clothes cleaning fluid is unfiltered the dirt, stains and grit keep circulating through the clothes and during the spin they leave fine deposits behind on the clothes as it passes through the machine walls by centrifugal force. Drycleaning doesn’t have that issue hence drycleaning is the purest cleaning you can get.
There is a place for wetcleaning, when its needed its fantastic, we do some wetcleaning combined with drycleaning. but 100% wetcleaning delivers very poor results. John was one of the first drycleaners in Melbourne to have a wetcleaning facility and have used this process for over 20 years.
Theres also the environmental aspect, of using valuable drinking water with several rinses uses hundreds of litres per load and sending it all down the sewer. Drycleaning solution is spun out and dried within the sealed machine and distilled into into pure crystal clear solution for the next load. None of it is wasted.
